"Ugly Betty" Canceled

Bad news for all of the Betty Suarez fans out there. ABC announced Wednesday that it’s pulling the plug on Ugly Betty, People reports.

“We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion,” executive producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson said in a joint statement. “We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

The show, which is currently in its fourth season, stars Emmy winner America Ferrera as a socially awkward and fashion-challenged young woman working at a hip fashion magazine. The Salma Hayek-produced program, based on the Colombian series Yo Soy Betty, La Fea, was revolutionary for Latinos on TV. Although the show has been adapted around the world, the American version, which premiered in Sept. ’06, has been one of the most successful.

It started to suffer in the ratings when ABC moved the comedy to Friday nights, a veritable graveyard for sitcoms.

How do you feel about this news? Will you miss Ugly Betty?
